GIRLS' BASKETBALL PREVIEW: Diman's time to shine Now it’s their turn.
The Diman Bengals, who missed the state tournament by a game a year ago despite not having a senior in the starting lineup, are eager to make that postseason run this year.
The Bengals return four of those five starters (one isn’t returning due to work commitments) and are hoping to make some noise in the Mayflower League.
“I think there’s an opportunity for us to move to that upper tier this year,” said Diman coach Shane Doyle. “We return four starters, have some experience, but we’ll be looking for some depth.”
Senior Lexie Botelho, a three-time league all-star returns at power forward after leading the team in scoring and rebounding a year ago.
Also returning from the starting lineup is 6-foot-2 sophomore center Katherine McDonnell, sophomore shooting guard Brynn Pasternak and sophomore point guard Lacey Perry, who was also a standout soccer player.
“I think Lacey is realizing she’s a basketball player,” Doyle said. “Last year as a freshman, she didn’t really know how to facilitate a game, but she has matured a lot this year.”
Senior guard Alexis Vadeboncoeur, a three-year varsity player, returns, as does senior forward Shelby Swanson, who has two years of varsity experience.
